Background on Membership/Directory Update Policies
For all CoSIDA colleagues and those who are interested in joining CoSIDA:
At the 2010 CoSIDA Convention in San Francisco, the CoSIDA Board of Directors voted to put a new membership payment and directory update process into place for 2010-11 and beyond.
In the fall of 2010, the Board voted to establish the new membership rates (shown above) for 2011-12 and to continue the new membership and directory update policies, putting a deadline of September 15, 2011 into effect for on-time payment. After that cutoff date to join CoSIDA or renew membership, a $30.00 late fee will be accessed for each membership category.
At the time of renewal or joining, the CoSIDA Board also asks that everyone review their online directory information and make any necessary edits/updates.
Each person who is the custodian of an organization account (allowing them to update/edit/change their organizational and staff online info and also pay dues for staff members) is also asked to review and update their information.
The reasons for this new membership payment policy and directory initiative are two-fold:
- First, the CoSIDA leadership is aiming to make our online information as relevant and updated as possible. Frankly, our online directory is not accurate, and without accuracy, the directory does not serve as a viable information tool and is not a positive reflection of our organization. Accuracy and relevancy (with correct names, positions, email and website addresses, mailing info, etc.) will assist CoSIDA – and those using the directory – greatly as we move ahead with numerous membership initiatives.
- Second, with dues paid by September 15 of each academic year, this will tremendously lessen confusion around the Capital One Academic All-America® nomination and voting period which begins in early October. Per CoSIDA policy, only active/current members can nominate deserving student-athletes for Captial One Academic All-America® honors, and only active members can vote for Capital One Academic All-District Teams. CoSIDA is seeking to avoid last-minutes mistakes and errors around the Academic All-America® nomination and voting periods by ensuring that memberships are activated in advance.
When you log into your CoSIDA account, you will be prompted to update your directory information by a new screen. Please take the time to make sure your info – especially your full school name as you wish for it to appear on any awards/Academic All-America® honors and certificates, and your MAILING address (not P.O. Boxes) - is updated.
Thank you for your attention to this as we aim to make our online information as relevant and updated as possible and avoid confusion around Capital One Academic All-America® nomination and voting.
